International Patients
Patients from the rest of the world
In many situations your health insurance may reimburse some of the costs involved in your visit to Clifden Medical Practice. A receipt will be provided by our staff at the time of payment, which can then be presented to your insurance company.
Patients from the UK
Visitors from the UK are entitled to emergency care (2 visits) without charge provided they have proof of NHS eligibility. You can also provide a valid passport or drivers licence. Your personal UK national insurance number is considered proof of NHS eligibility. Please be aware that certain treatments are not covered. This may include suturing or other minor procedures.
Patients from the EU
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) allows you to access public healthcare in another EU/EEA state for free or at a reduced rate. Please present your European Health Card at the practice reception before each consultation. The EHIC only covers you for a temporary stay of up to 3 months. If you’re a student studying abroad, you’ll be covered for up to an academic year.
